Do Authors with Stronger Bibliographic Coupling Ties Cite Each Other More Often?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Author bibliographic coupling is extended from bibliographic coupling concept and holds the view that two authors with more common references are more related and have more similar research interests. This study aims to examine the association between author bibliographic coupling strength and citation exchange in Information Science & Library Science and more specifically, in imetrics. The results show that there is a positive and significant association between these two factors in Information Science & Library Science and also in imetrics; however, the correlation is more significant among imetricians. This confirms the Merton's norm of universalism versus constructivists' particularism. A closer investigation of bibliographic coupling and citation networks among thirty highly cited imetricians shows that Thelwall, M. is in strong bibliographic coupling and citation relationships with the majority of authors in the network. He and BarIlan have the strongest ABC and citation relationships in the network. Rousseau, R., Glänzel, W., Bornmann, L., Bar-Ilan, J., and Leydesdorff, L. are also in strong ABC relations with each other as well as other authors in the network. متن کاملDifferent Approaches to Automated Classification: Is There an Exchange of Ideas?
Automated classification of text has been studied by three major research communities, machine learning, information retrieval, and library science, each taking a different approach. The paper aims to study to what a degree the three communities explore others’ ideas, methods, findings. To that purpose we studied direct links (do authors from one community cite authors from another) and indirec...
متن کاملCitation Proximity Analysis (CPA) – A new approach for identifying related work based on Co-Citation Analysis
This paper presents an approach for identifying similar documents that can be used to assist scientists in finding related work. The approach called Citation Proximity Analysis (CPA) is a further development of co-citation analysis, but in addition, considers the proximity of citations to each other within an article‟s full-text. The underlying idea is that the closer citations are to each othe...

متن کاملDoes citation reflect social structure?: Longitudinal evidence from the Globenet interdisciplinary research group
Many authors have posited a social component in citation, the consensus being that the citers and citees often have interpersonal as well as intellectual ties. Evidence for this belief has been rather meager, however, in part because social networks researchers have lacked bibliometric data (e.g., pairwise citation counts from online databases) and citation analysts have lacked sociometric data...
